The BATIDA project, a partnership between MPG and ESAD CR, took place between March and June 2022 and its main goal was to give the students of the 2nd year of the Industrial Design degree the experience of developing projects in a context of collaboration with industry. MPG, a company specialized in the production of office furniture, launched the challenge to Professor Miguel Vieira Baptista, who accompanied the various projects developed by students during the semester.

The relationship between the designer and MPG extends beyond this project. In 2016, the CAF collection was developed by Miguel Vieira Baptista, composed of furniture objects for cafeterias. This collection was integrated into the designer’s interior furnishing project for the cafeteria of EDP’s headquarters in Lisbon.

The result of the BATIDA Project was a very coherent set of furniture pieces and accessories for use in both office and domestic contexts. Based on this set, 4 projects were selected by the jury for awards, with the winners standing out both for their design quality and their suitability for the market.

On the 18th of November, in MPG’s facilities, took place the BATIDA Project | Prize-giving ceremony to the students, Alexandre Calçada with his SCREEN / Portable Partition, Bianca Boker with her table SKRUVA, Joana Marques with the Thinking Cabin and Pedro Afonso with the TERRITORY piece.

For MPG office furniture, it is an enormous pleasure to be a part of these kind of projects and undoubtedly these are dynamics to replicate with other entities due to their disruptive and practical nature.
